The I-5 corridor through the Centralia area has a history of severe flooding. The Port of Centralia dedicated a 10 acre parcel to more efficiently deal with the surrounding areas storm water problems. Following the clearing of the parcel woody debris were ground for mulching the sensitive site. 21,000 yards of moisture sensitive soils were relocated, placed, and compacted to engineered elevations. Large storm water retention ponds were constructed feeding metered release structures easing the downstream flood burden. Mulching and Hydroseeding were installed to protect the new slopes through the winter.
