South Puget Sound Community College Expansion

Site work and parking addition for welding and automotive training buildings.

South Puget Sound Community College is located in a heavy treed area with gently rolling topography. Large quantities of perched water and solid bedrock made the initial excavation work challenging. Bedrock needed to be fractured with explosives on the existing campus prior to being excavated with large excavation equipment. Dewatering wells were installed to allow foundation excavation and concrete formwork on the buildings. Utility installation was re-engineered to avoid areas of solid rock. By adapting to the unforeseen conditions, using project specific work applications, and partnering with the project design team the project overcame many obstacles.
